Fiji Island Traditions & Resort Retreat

Cruise turquoise waters, relax at your Fijian spa resort and immerse yourself in the culture and traditions of Polynesia.

About Your Trip

Discover the appeal of island living as you partake in cultural activities, snorkel in turquoise waters, or simply sit back and relax in the warm sand and sun of Mana, Fiji. On day 2 of your trip, venture out on a sea cruise, snorkel the reefs and explore a traditional island village on one of your stops, where you’ll be welcomed ashore with a customary Kava ceremony.

During the rest of your island getaway, enjoy the plentiful complimentary activities available at your oceanfront hotel — do as much or as little as you want. Take a Fijian cooking class, play volleyball or “beach Olympics,” learn about coconuts or enjoy a bonfire. If relaxation is calling your name, spend your days relaxing on the hotel’s private beach, 2 freshwater pools or at the spa. If you want to venture off the hotel grounds, join a tour to the coral table and giant clam farms.

After dinner on your final night, make memories to last a lifetime when you experience a traditional Fijian meke (Polynesian dance) show.

What we love:
• Mana’s neighboring island, Monuriki was a major filming location for many of the scenes in the movie, “Cast Away.”
• The well-known scuba diving site, Big W, is on the edge of a barrier reef near the island of Malolo and features a wall that drops 1,500 feet to the ocean floor.
• As part of its commitment to sustainability, your resort features hydroponic and organic gardens with fruits and vegetables used at its on-site restaurants.

Check out this DreamTrip on Facebook.

This trip will close by January 11.

Destination

Located in the South Pacific, Fiji is an archipelago of more than 330 tropical islands and 550 smaller islets, most of them uninhabitable. A terrain of lagoons, rain forests, mountains and beaches – along with a tropical climate – makes it the perfect setting for all types of land and sea activities. Traditional Fijian cuisine is heavily influenced by the sea, but tourists can also indulge in non-seafood items like coconuts, breadfruit and taros. Fiji’s capital, Suva, is a multicultural, modern city with museums, markets, shopping and restaurants.

Mana Island, part of the Mamanuca chain of islands, is home to popular resorts that cater to all types of travelers seeking relaxation and recreation. The colorful coral reefs attract snorkelers and divers, rolling hillsides draw trekkers, and sprawling beaches are perfect for sunbathers.

Tipping is optional and not customary, and gratuities are not included in this trip. We suggest 4 Fijian dollars per day for housekeeping, and 4 Fijian dollars per bag for porterage.

While visiting the traditional village, please adhere to the following local customs:
• It is customary for guests – male or female – to wear a sulu (sarong) when touring local villages; you will be provided a sarong to wear during your stay.
• Visitors should avoid wearing sleeveless shirts (for example, no tank tops) and men should wear long pants or shorts that fall below the knee.
• Swimsuits are acceptable only at the beach.
• Do not wear a hat/cap/visor; only the chief has the right to wear a hat in a Fijian village.

Average temperature is expected to range from 26–31 C (79–88 F).

It is recommended that guests bring sunscreen, a hat and swim wear for all outdoor and water activities, plus a light rain coat and comfortable walking shoes; we also recommend carrying a canteen and extra bottles of water for outdoor excursions.

Please consider the relaxed pace of the island when waiting for scheduled transfers or when arranging other services, and be prepared to enjoy the stress-free environment and take in some scenery while you wait.
